How to Set Up and Connect Your Smart LED Bulb to Wi-Fi (Step-by-Step Guide)

HOW TO SET-UP AND CONNECT TO YOUR SMART LED BULB

Every home setup is different, so this guide will walk you step by step on how to use your new smart LED bulb.

1St STEP: Make sure you have a 2.4 GHz W-iFi connection

If your smart bulb won’t connect, it’s almost always because your phone is connected to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, while the bulb only supports 2.4 GHz.

The simplest solution is to separate your two Wi-Fi bands so you can choose the 2.4 GHz one manually. Most modern routers combine both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under a single Wi-Fi name (also called an SSID).

That’s convenient for normal use — but it can confuse smart devices during setup.

⚠ Note: The exact menus and terms can vary depending on your router brand (e.g., TP-Link, Netgear, Huawei, Xiaomi, Livebox, etc.), but the principle is always the same.

A/ Access your router’s settings

Make sure your phone or computer is connected to your Wi-Fi.

Open a web browser and type one of these common addresses into the search bar: 192.168.0.1 / 192.168.1.1 / or try entering your router’s brand name (e.g. “tplinkwifi.net”, “mifi”, “livebox”) in the address bar.

Log in with your router’s username and password (you can usually find these on a sticker under your router or in your internet provider’s app)

B/ Find the Wireless Settings or Wi-Fi Settings

Look for a section called something like: Wireless, Wi-Fi, or Network Settings.

Then find the options for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.

C/ Rename the two Wi-Fi networks

You’ll see that both bands currently share the same name (SSID), like “MyHomeWiFi”.

Change them to:

- 2.4 GHz network name: MyHome_2.4G

- 5 GHz network name: MyHome_5G

You can keep the same password for both — that makes it easy to remember.

D/ Save your changes

Click Apply, Save, or Update Settings depending on your router.

E/ Reconnect your phone to the 2.4 GHz network

On your phone:

- Go to Wi-Fi settings

- Select your newly renamed 2.4 GHz network (MyHome_2.4G)

- Enter your Wi-Fi password

- Once connected, open your smart bulb app and repeat the setup process

Your bulb should now connect successfully

2nd STEP: You need to download the APP “SmartLife”

Scan the QR code below to download "Smart Life" app (Android, iOS)

3rd STEP: Set-up the bulb

Safety tips:

- Always switch off the light or unplug the lamp before installing the bulb.

- Check the bulb’s specifications (e.g., voltage and wattage).

- Keep the bulb dry.

Screw in your bulb carefully, and handle it by the base, not the glass.

4th STEP: Connect your smart LED bulb to the WIFI

(1)Switch on the light. The smart bulb should enter dimmable mode, meaning it is ready to connect to devices, dimmable mode where the bulb cycles from bright to dim as if breathing, as demonstrated in the video below.

(2)Open the SmartLife APP on your phone

(3)Tap the “+” in the top right corner and select “Add Device”

(4)Wait a few seconds for your bulb to appear on the screen, then connect it

✅ That’s it! Once connected, you can control your smart LED bulb using your phone. Repeat these steps for as many smart bulbs as you like.

Troubleshooting Tips

If your bulb gets disconnected and you want to reconnect it:

- Turn the smart bulb on and off 5 times in a row.

- The bulb should enter dimmable mode again.

- Open the SmartLife app, tap “+” → “Add Device”, and reconnect.
